As a Software Engineering Manager, you’ll lead one or more engineering teams within a domain, focusing on people development, technical delivery, and engineering culture.
Plus! You’ll bring technical management experience to the team, and lean team excellence and culture alongside. You’ll partner with Staff/Principal Engineers to ensure technical excellence, sound system design, and adherence to engineering standards. You’ll build and maintain a high-performing, inclusive team culture that fosters collaboration, innovation, and psychological safety. You are not hands on with code however you have the passion and want to be close to it, having previously coded in the past, allowing you to engage in technical discussions and add value.
Key Responsibilities
- Driving alignment to the engineering strategy, identifying gaps and improvement areas, and championing best practices
- Working with Agile Delivery Managers to plan, prioritise, and deliver outcomes that meet business objectives
- Partnering with Staff/Principal Engineers to ensure technical excellence, sound system design, and adherence to engineering standards
- Ensuring technical excellence by partnering with senior engineers to uphold architectural standards, security, and quality practices
- Monitoring and improving delivery metrics (e.g., cycle time, defect rates, predictability) to enhance team performance
- Maintaining team health and engagement, proactively addressing challenges and fostering a culture of inclusion and continuous improvement
Experience/Skills
- Proven experience in engineering leadership and team management in an Agile environment
- Strong understanding of modern engineering practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, and cloud-native development
- Familiarity with delivery metrics and continuous improvement techniques
- Ability to influence technical decisions without direct coding responsibilities
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Skilled in building inclusive, high-performing teams
- Shaped engineering culture and practices across teams
