Engineering Practice Lead

Our client is an established digital transformation consultancy with a reputation as one of the best in Europe. The Practice Lead is accountable for how software engineering is performed across the business, ensuring high quality, efficient and scalable engineering delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Engineering Leadership & SDLC Ownership Own and continuously improve the end-to-end Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), ensuring modern, AI-enabled engineering practices, efficient workflows, and higher quality delivery across Technology.
  2. Standards, Quality & Governance Define and govern standards for architecture, code quality, documentation, testing, security, compliance (GDPR, IP, licensing), and “definition of done”, embedding these consistently across teams and CI/CD pipelines.
  3. AI Strategy & Enablement in Engineering Drive the safe, responsible, and high-impact adoption of AI across engineering, QA, and delivery – setting guardrails while measuring productivity and quality gains.
  4. Risk, Reliability & Continuous Improvement Proactively identify and mitigate technical and delivery risks (e.g., technical debt, architectural fragility, tooling risks), while tracking engineering health metrics to drive continuous improvement.
  5. Decision-Making, Escalation & Stakeholder Representation Provide guidance on complex technical issues, act as the primary engineering voice in internal forums, and ensure stakeholders have clear visibility of trade-offs, progress, and engineering health.
  6. Matrix Leadership, Capability Building & Third-Party Governance Support workforce planning, collaboration across practices (Shopify, Integration, Delivery), uplift engineer capability, and help set and monitor standards, SLAs, and performance for third-party partners.

Experience/Skills

  • Proven experience in eCommerce and full stack engineering in a leadership role
  • Strong experience managing end to end SDLC including Agile, Scrum, Dev Ops Practices
  • Experience in matrix environments
  • Experience working with AI-enabled engineering practices, implementing AI to improve development workflows, testing and operational productivity
